Nailing it
June 28, 2023
Teammates across the country are nailing community outreach by partnering with Habitat for Humanity! From coast to coast, our teams are living out our people-first culture through fundraising, building and volunteering with Habitat to ensure affordable housing is accessible in all communities.
Habitat for Humanity partners with individuals and families to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Through the process, they achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to become stable homeowners and build a better future for themselves.
Check out the ways our teams are supporting Habitat’s mission throughout the country:
Dallas, Texas
Our North Texas Connecting Women employee affinity group is chairing the Women Build Dallas leadership team this year and has successfully raised over $100,000 for the program. ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ volunteers have been supporting the construction of the Women Build house at the Habitat workshop (where all the walls for the home were preconstructed in one day!) and on the property.
Shown below is the group’s second volunteer build day on site. Together they installed rafters, roofing and exterior sheeting and performed ADA compliance blocking. The future homeowner, Sarah (right), was also there working alongside our teammates to build her home. The team looks forward to passing the keys to Sarah on August 5.
San Diego, California
Our local San Diego Connecting Women employee affinity group joined with other women builders for a renovation project as part of Habitat’s Women Build initiative. The group performed quality exterior improvements at Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization site in Chula Vista.
In addition to lending a helping hammer, the team raised more than $4,500 to support ongoing renovation and repair projects as well as help local families build and buy their own home in San Diego County.
Portland, Oregon
A team of volunteers recently gathered for a build day in Portland’s Pleasant Valley neighborhood. The team dug holes and poured concrete footings for decks and fence posts outside of the houses and performed interior caulking for soffits and air seals. The team went above and beyond what the Habitat organizers expected, successfully pouring all concrete footings in just one day!
Washington, D.C.
A group of ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ women recently volunteered for Habitat for Humanity of Metro Maryland’s Women Build initiative. At Habitat’s Tacoma Park, Maryland, duplex project, the team removed subfloors and installed new vinyl flooring in the basement, kitchen and living room. The team is excited to be part of the dedication of the houses to the families who will call Tacoma Park home later this summer.
